HDMI:
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. With the ability to deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI can provide an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable.
Depending on the model of product, HDMI can support standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable . It can transmit all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel, 192kHz, uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby Digital and DTS), newer HDMI devices can support HDMI 1.3 technology which adds additional support for new lossless digital audio formats Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™. (view the Specifications of each product for details on HDMI compatibility)
DVD Video:
DVD is essentially a large capacity optical video storage media that contains movies or other video content for home entertainment. DVD has become the standard for video publishing by most movie and video studios.
Video CD:
DVD Players equipped with Video CD capabilities will be able to play video and sound media that has been compressed together using the MPEG 1 standard, and recorded onto a CD disc.
CD-R, CD-RW Playback:
More and more people these days are using their computers or digital recorders to make their own CD-R and CD-RW discs. Yamaha CD players and changers are capable of playing these discs.
Dolby Digital:
The most popular 5.1-channel home theater sound system. An improvement over Dolby Pro-Logic in that it offers: 1) Full frequency response in all channels (3Hz — 20kHz), 2) discrete surround channels, and 3) a separate track for bass only, called the Low Frequency Effects channel.
DTS Digital Out:
DVD players equipped with dts surround will output the digital surround sound bitstream either via optical and/or coaxial digital outputs. See specifications for inputs available on each DVD player.
DivX:
DivX is the video compression codec developed by DivX Networks and based on the MPEG-4 compression format. Its balance of high video quality and low bit rate has made it very popular and quickly established it as the best home video format thus far. The ability to play it on newer DVD models continues to add to its popularity as DivX Networks advances its support to many new household products. This compression technology has the potential for expanding the ways we view video media in much the way MP3 has given us many new ways to listen to music.
MP3:
Short for MPEG-1 layer 3 audio, MP3 is a compression process used to shrink audio files by filtering out all noise that is not detectable to the human ear. MP3 is considered near CD-quality, but the file itself occupies approximately one tenth to one twelfth the space of the original CD format, making it the perfect medium for today’s smaller, memory based portable media players.
USB:
This unit is equipped with a USB port that allows you to enjoy WAV (PCM format only), MP3 and WMA audio files from a USB memory device (USB flash drive).
Bluetooth:
The Bluetooth logo indicates that the product is equipped to use the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth Wireless Audio Receiver that lets you connect the dock to the receiver and supports A2DP audio streaming. With the optional YBA-10 Bluetooth dock, you can enjoy music wirelessly from Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, portable devices, or personal computers. (view the Specifications of each product for Bluetooth® dock compatibility)
Made for iPod (Docking Station):
The Made for iPod logo indicates that the product is equipped to use an optional Yamaha Universal iPod Dock that lets you connect your iPod to this product. With the optional dock you can listen to your music and operate the iPod via the product’s remote control while at the same time charging the battery on your iPod. Depending on your product’s specifications, some will allow you to use the On-Screen Display feature on your video monitor to navigate your music.
